Old Man Winter.

Old Man Winter is built for winter conditions, but safety comes first. Boulder County law enforcement may postpone the event if roads become unsafe. If conditions change during the event, the team can move riders onto a shorter in-town route while the run continues where safe. Registered participants receive updates by email as early as possible.

Entries can be transferred to another person at no charge through Events.com. The historic policy has also offered a discounted deferral to the following year before a published deadline. The final 2027 policy will appear here before registration opens.

Gravel and cyclocross bikes are the most common. A road bike with wider tires can work in dry conditions, while a fat bike delivers maximum smiles when snow arrives. Tires at least 25mm wide are recommended, with tread selected for the forecast and course conditions.

Yes. Every course is timed, but this is a rules-of-the-road event and all traffic laws apply. Safety sections on the long course may be untimed so riders can descend cautiously and stop at every sign.

Absolutely. The finish-line party is free and open to the public, with food and drinks available to buy plus family activities and the free kids bike race.

Cyclists must be at least 10 on event day and runners can take part from age 6. Youth pricing has historically been available. The free kids bike race includes kick-bike and pedal-bike categories for younger children.

Dogs are welcome with their owners in the 5K and on the running courses where posted. Keep them controlled, comfortable in winter conditions and considerate of other participants.

All events start and finish at Bohn Park, 199 2nd Ave, Lyons, Colorado. Parking is available in Bohn Park, at the water treatment lot across 2nd Avenue, at Lyons Middle and High School, and in permitted residential areas.
