Just the FAQs

Q.  Where does it start/finish?

A. All events start and finish at Bohn Park in Lyons, Colorado. 199 2nd Ave, Lyons, CO 80540

Q.  Is this event timed?

A. Yes – all courses are timed, however it is a “Rules of the Road” event. ALL Traffic laws MUST be obeyed. Participants disobeying traffic laws will have their bib numbers removed and disqualified from the event. NOTE on 100K course: Riders descending Sunshine and passing through Boulder will NOT BE TIMED while riding through the city. This is a precaution to ensure all riders stop at all stop signs as they pass through the City of Boulder and take it easy down a potentially icy canyon road. Timing will end at the top of the Rowena Trail and resume when climbing Linden.

Q.  What happens if it is snowing on event day?

A. This is a rain, snow, or shine event. That said, prior to race day, Boulder County law enforcement has the authority to postpone the event if there are safety hazards on the road due to weather.  All registered participants will be notified ASAP via email if the event is postponed. If the event is postponed and you can not attend, you can transfer your entry to another person, but unfortunately we can not offer refunds.

Q.  What happens if there is a freak storm on event day?

A. in 2020, we were hit with an unexpected Winter Storm on event day and we had to end the event early. If this were to happen again, we will revert to a shorter course for the bike course in town. The run will be able to continue as planned. If we are hit by a storm, mid-event, unfortunately we cannot offer refunds since this situation is out of our control.

Q. What kind of bike should I ride?

A. You will likely see everything from a straight up road bike to a fat bike. Due to the nature of the course containing gravel , we recommend tires at least 25mm wide tire. Knobby tread will help with traction and slick treads could be dangerous depending on the course conditions. Gravel / cyclocross bikes will be predominantly used, but if course conditions are dry, a road bike with wide tires might just be faster!…although you’ll definitely get the most smiles and high fives on a fat bike.

Q. Can I get a refund or transfer my registration?

A.  We do not offer refunds (other than our COVID policy), however there is no charge to transfer your entry to another person. To do this, login to Events.com, manage registration, transfer entry.

Q. Can I do the 100K bike AND the 10K run?

A. Sorry the schedule does not allow for you to ride the 100K and run the 10K since they start 30 minutes apart.

Q. Can i ride an ebike?

A. Yes - you are welcome to ride an ebike, however your time will not be eligible for prizes. In addition, you cannot use an ebike to help another ride achieve a better time on the course.

Q. How old do I have to be to participate?

A. Cyclists must be 10 years old on event day. Runners can be 6 and up. There are also discounted entries for kiddos!

Q. Can a friend attend packet pick-up for me?

A. If you are picking up a packet for someone, have them email/text you a picture of their ID and registration confirmation email with QR code. If you are a minor, your parent pr guardian can pick up your packet for you.

Q. Is there a bag check?

A. No, however there is close-by parking so you can change clothes after your event.

Q. Are there any cut-off times?

A. There is a 12:30pm cut off at the Rowena Trail entrance. If you reach this point after 12:30pm, you’ll need to go back down Lefthand Canyon and return to Lyons via the 50K course.

Q. Can my friends/family attend the after party?

A. Yes - we will also have fun and free activities for them. Food and beer is available for purchase.

Q. What does it mean that the run is a Bolder Boulder qualifier?

A. Bolder Boulder looks at specific races to determine your start position. Your pace results at the Old Man Winter Rally will qualify you for a faster start time at the Bolder Boulder.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Make sure you have adequate cold weather riding gear, including full finger gloves, a beanie or ear warmer, wind/waterproof jacket, insulating layers, a face mask, and shoe covers. You’ll also want something to change into after you ride or run, and bring some cash.

Q. How long will the ride take?

A. We anticipate riders can finish the 50K course in 1.5 to 3 hours. The long course will take from 3.5 to 6 hours. The 10K will take 35 minutes to 1 hour. You are welcome to walk the 5K and 10K course.

Q. Are there prizes for the top finishers?

A. The cash prizes are only for the top male and female on the 100K bike course. All other categories will win AWESOME prizes such as coolers, gift cards, clothing, and more. All participants have a chance to win prizes by picking up “snowflakes,” along the course. These snowflakes contain raffle tickets for prizes that range from a bike frame to gift cards to a cup of coffee.
