Snow, Gravel, Hills, and Thrills
This course is the real deal with 5600' of climbing in the canyons, the Rowena trail, and plenty of adventure no matter what the weather.
The course starts out neutral until the turnoff at the Muffler Man (63rd st) and then it's Game On. This year, you'll head into the hills earlier. You’ll climb Lefthand Canyon up to the infamous Rowena trail. Snow is pretty much guaranteed on Rowena, so you are likely to get in some good off-the-bike action. Aid 1 awaits at Sunshine Saddle (mile 23.5) and this also marks the end of the 1st timed segment.
After the neutral ride through Boulder, you'll climb Linden, hit some gravel through Pine Brook Hills, and then have your final climb up Old Stage Rd. After cross back into the "flats", you’ll do a loop around the frozen tundra that is the Boulder Reservoir in the winter. You’ll have an aid station at the “Res” at mile 51.9 and then another to get you home at Black Cat Farm at mile 60 to get topped off before the final push back to Lyons.
THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR INEXPERIENCED RIDERS
TIME CUT OFFS:
Rowena entrance at 11:30. If you reach this point after 11:30, you will take Lefthand Canyon back down and continue on the course.
